Grandstands or Arquibancadas

Grandstands or bleachers are the most reasonably priced sambodromo seats for the Rio deJaneiro Carnival. The elevated position gives you an excellent idea of samba schools as a group. Grandstands seats are not numbered seats EXCEPT for theTourist Sector 9, which is more expensive; offering numbered and assigned seats in the cement. There aren't actual chairs to sit on - the bleachers are bigconcrete steps. Even-numbered sectors are being rebuilt and will be ready for carnival 2012

Grandstands Sectors Special Grandstands Sectors: 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10 and 11. Recommended. Popular Grandstand Sectors: 1, 12 and 13. Not recommended for its location before the parade starts (sector 1) or at the very end of parade (Sectors 12 and 13).

Grandstands Tips

  • All special sectors – 2 to 11 – offer a great view of the parade, but there are some differences to be considered.
  • Sector 9 is the tourist sector and the only sector with assigned grandstand seat space in the cement.
  • The drummer’s niches are located between sectors 9 and 11. Select these sectors if you love the sound of the drums.
  • The lower the sambodromo section, the lesser time you will have without entertainment. When one schools is about to end the parade, the next is already warming up. Example: sectors 2 and 3 are entertained for more time than sectors 10 and 11.
  • The higher the sambadrome section, the bigger is the view of the parade. Imagine you are on the Sector 11 you will see the entire parade formed from a distance – wings after wings. When you’re at the Sector 3, where the parade starts, you will only see one Wing in front of you at a time.
  • We can only conclude that no sector offers everything. They are all good and worth its value.
  • Even-numbered sectors 02, 04, 06 and 08 are new grandstands sectors at the Rio de Janeiro Sambodromo. They are being rebuilt from scratch and expected to be ready on time for the Samba Parade rehearsals in December 2011.
Grandstands Sectors are indicated in ORANGE below. 
We recommend you  Sectors 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10 and 11.
Popular Grandstand Sectors  12 and 13 are NOT recommended for its bed location.

Allocated Chair or Cadeiras Individuais

Want to have your own seat at the Rio sambodromo without breaking the bank? If you answer is Yes, then allocated chairs or back stalls are the right tickets for you. 

Allocated chairs are assigned seats, available only on Sectors 12 and 13 of the Rio sambodromo and are the most affordable Rio carnival tickets. They are located at the very end of the parade, close to the Apotheosis.  If you want to make sure you have a seat for the entire night, book the allocated Chairs to watch the Rio Carnival Samba Parades.  You will have your own private chair, and can come and go whenever you like. The chairs are located on reclining steps to assure you unrestricted, good views. The sectors 12 and 13 are like an open-air theatre with the long lines of chairs facing the parade, located towards the end of the runway.

Because you are at the very end of the parade, the intervals between the samba schools are of approximately half an hour long, which can bore you. It’s good  you have your own chair assigned so you can wander around as you please, between the shows.

Open Boxes Chair or Frisas

The Open Boxes or Frisas as they are known at the Rio Carnival Sambodromo, are the best, tickets you can get to watch the samba parades. The Open Box Sectors are located at the very floor level, as close to the runaway as it gets, in four rows of boxes, from A TO D. Each box sits six people in numbered chairs. A little coffee table completes the box space.
The frisas are offered in front of sectors 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 of the Rio Sambodromo. 

What to Consider:

  • The four rows of boxes are numbered from A TO D, being A the closest to the runaway and D the furthest. 
  • The Row A will put you closer to the runway but the parade organizers and photographers can be a bit-disturbing passing by all the time.
  •  The boxes are located on floor level but on reclining steps to offer everybody great views.  Rows B, C and D offer better and undisturbed views of the parade.
  • The boxes offer the most unrestricted view of the entire sambodromo. However you won’t be able to enjoy it or strike pictures as you would from the heights of the grandstands sectors. 
  • Tickets are sold per person. So you can get a single ticket to join another five people you have never met at your box.
  •  Even-numbered sectors 02, 04, 06 and 08 are new open boxes sectors at the Rio de Janeiro Sambodromo. They are being rebuilt from scratch and expected to be ready on time for the Samba Parade rehearsals in December 2011.

 

Our Staff Opinion for those thinking about the Luxury Suites.

  • The Open Boxes offer the best tickets in the house. They offer youbest views and bigger comfort.
  •  Okay, you won’t have the buffet or open bar included and all like you would at the Luxury Suites. However, licensed food companies sell Snacks, refreshments and alcohol at the box area, all night.
  • Comparing it to the Luxury Suite, one thing we don't like about them is that the window is not big enough for everyone to watch the parade all the time.  It might be wise to change the luxury buffet and the A/C for the Open Boxes where you are able to watch the show with no hassles.
  • Yes, it’s open and sometimes it rains. But the show doesn’t stop. Nor does the people parading or watching.

Luxury Suites or Camarote Especial

Luxury Suites, Camarotes or covered boxes tickets are available all along the Rio sambodromo, from Sector 2 to Sector 11.  These are considered to be the most desired tickets, offering a great view of the show from a private suite with first-class waiter service, buffet with starters, entrée, fruits, deserts and a variety of alcoholic beverages such as Scotch whisky, champagne, prosseco, red and white wine, vodka and beer. 

Each Luxury Suite is good for 12 people. Sometimes four suites are built together to accommodate 48 people at a time.  Each box will count with a bartender, a waiter and one of our English-speaking representatives. He or She will assist you with any special requests you may have.
Even-numbered sectors 02, 04, 06 and 08 are new sectors at the Rio de Janeiro Sambodromo. They are being rebuilt from scratch to substitute old Sector 02, and expected to be ready on time for the Samba Parade rehearsals in December 2011.

What to consider

  • Luxury Suites may not be your best bet: because the suite window is not big enough for the 12 people per window to watch the show at the same time, we only recommend it for closed groups of 12, 24 or 36 people.

  • Open Boxes might be a better option if you don't want to share the tiny space on the window with other guests.

Covered Box Etiquette

Proper behavior will make for an enjoyable show parade. So, for yours and everybody else’sconvenience and comfort, we would like you to consider some rules when booking a covered box ticket, listed as "luxury suite" on our ticket form.

  • Smoking is strictly forbidden in the Luxury Suites. There are smoking areas located nearby.
  • Proper behavior will make for an enjoyable show parade. Be courteous and kind with the other guests.
  • Even though the suites accommodate 12 people, the windows to the show aren’t big enough to accommodate 12 people watching the parade at the same time. Therefore, we kindly ask everybody to be courteous with each other and share the space so everyone can enjoy the show. It’s a lounge area. We suggest everyone to take turns at the bar in the back, with the window to ensure everyone has a great time.
Luxury Suites are indicate by this very tiny strip of BLUE between the Grandstands (Orange) and the Frisas (Pink).

  • Tickets consist of two parts, a magnetic card and a paper slip. Double check that you receive both parts. If you buy tickets for the tables or frisas, you also should receive a plastic card to wear around your neck.
  • Do not purchase tickets from scalpers at the gates.
  • Do not plan on discounted rates or free admission after the parade has started.
