How to get to the Sambadrome

Getting to the Sambdrome is easy since most people head in that direction on carnival days. You can call for a government authorized radio taxi service to take you directly to the venue. Let the driver know your sector number so that he takes you to the right entrance. The Sambadrome has arrangements with two taxi companies if you wish to avail of their services. For the return journey, you can hail one of these taxis parked between Sectors 9 and 11. How to get to the Sambadrome in Rio de Janeiro.

One of the best ways to reach the Sambadrome is the subway. Trains depart every ten minutes all through the night with plenty of revelers making their way to the stadium. The subway station is a mere ten minutes from the stadium. Chartered buses are the cheapest mode of transport available. Buses ply along several routes to the stadium.

Our guided roundtrip shuttle service is the most convenient way to get to the Sambadrome. The shuttle service will pick you up at your hotel and drop you back any time you wish after midnight. Our guides are there to assist you at the Sambadrome.

Option 1 - Guided Roundtrip Shuttle Service – US$ 79 per person

The shuttle service will pick you up from your hotel and drop you within two blocks of the entrance to your sector.

Returning from the Sambadrome to your hotel

A shuttle service leaves after midnight at the end of every samba school presentation, taking guests back to their hotel. Drop-off points are at hotels along the beach. You will need to get off at the nearest point if your hotel is not located along the beach. Guides are unavailable on the return journey. Option 2 – Private Guided Transfers

Private round trip transfers are available from your hotel to Sectors 7, 9, and 11 at the Sambadrome. The cost of $1,250 is inclusive of the services of an English speaking guide, pick up at your hotel and drop off at the Sambadrome/ pick up at Sambadrome, drop off at hotel. A car will be at your disposal at the Sambadrome. Please inform our carnival staff approximately 30 minutes before you wish to depart from the Sambadrome. The sprinter service is available for up to 9 passengers.

Alternative packages include:

Hotel/Sambadrome with guide and Sambadrome/hotel without guide – $998
Hotel/Sambadrome with guide and Sambadrome/hotel by shuttle service – $650

Option 3 – Taxi Service

Coopertramo, a private radio taxi service operates to the Sambadrome on all nights of the Rio Carnival. The company has a special booth at the stadium to assist passengers. The fare is approximately $40 for a one way trip. Taxis are available from Sector 11. They have several representatives recognizable by their uniform. For pick up or drop, call Coopertramo on 2560-2022 / 2560-1474.

Option 4 – Subway

We recommend the subway if you are staying near Ipanema or Copacabana. You can take one of the subway stations in Copacabana, an ideal option if you are wearing a costume. The routes are:

- Estação Cantagalo - Praça Eugenio Jardim – Copacabana
- Estaçao Siqueira Campos – Rua Siqueira Campos – Copacabana
- Estaçao Cardeal Arcoverde – Rua Barata Ribeiro – Copacabana
- Estacao General Osorio – Praça General Osório – Ipanema

For odd numbered Sectors 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 get off at Estação Central. The samabdrome is a ten minute walk from the subway station.

For even numbered Sectors 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 get off at Estação Praça Onze. The sambadrome is a mere 15 minutes walk from the station.

Central Location

The best thing about is the Passarela do Samba Darcy Ribeiro Sambadrome is that it is easily accessible from Rio's Galeão-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport. Several hotels, restaurants, and subway stations are located close to the stadium. It is also close to the Zona Sul or South Zone where famous carnival balls like the Magic Ball at the Copacabana Palace Hotel and Scala balls at the Scala nightclub in Leblon.
